Liberty and Anti-Imperialism
Welcome to Liberty and Anti-Imperialism, a website for learning about American foreign policy at the turn of the twentieth century. The site includes details of anti-imperial activists, collections of primary documents from the era, and details on the historical context of American imperialism at the time. The website reflects the research of Dr. Michael Patrick Cullinane, Senior Lecturer at Northumbria University.
The website has been online since 2007, but has been completely overhauled in 2011-12 in an effort to include more material in a sleeker format. Among the new materials available is an enhanced resources section. The new site includes higher resolution images that are easier to access and navigate, a section containing political cartoons from the era, and a teaching section with lesson plans and guides for educators. These were added in response to education bodies who have used the site in its previous form.
"A fresh examination of the anti-imperialist movement was long overdue. And here it is.”—Lloyd Gardner, professor emeritus, Rutgers University
“Michael Patrick Cullinane has written an extraordinary book, one which revises and revivifies the history of anti-imperialism in the United States.”—Marilyn B. Young, professor of History, New York University
